Fontillas singling and was brought home with a Thomas triple. In the fifth inning
McKinney wasted no time after Guzman scored on a bases loaded walk. With Licata
on third Fontillas on second and Derrick on First all reaching on walks, Thomas

McKinney (17-10-1)( 9-4) hosted Sherman in a must win game to stay in the hunt for second place after
the loss against Centennial on Saturday. After handing Sherman a run to start
the game McKinney answered with two of their own in the first. Alyssa Fontillas
started it off with a single followed by an Ashley Thomas single. Jenny Gilbert
stepped up to the plate and lined a shot down right field ending up on third
scoring both Fontillas and Thomas. McKInney kept the game interesting with a
hit here and there for the next six innings being kept off balance by the
Sherman pitcher. But in the bottom of the seventh with the score tied 2-2 it
was very fitting that on senior night senior Jenny Guzman steps up to lead off
and took a 1-1 pitch and sent over the ball over left centerfield for a walk
off home run. McKinney ends the regular season Friday night at Frisco Liberty.

night looking to get the second half win and stay in the race for second place
overall. The Lionettes made an early statement and jumped out with two runs in the
first when Ashley Thomas hit a bomb over right center. The home run scored her

double by Meredith Baker. Baker then scored by a double from Thomas who then
came home on a Jenny Gilbert single. Lisa Licata reached on a single, stole
second and was pushed home by a Haley Pruitt single up the middle. Pruitt
was able to score by a Gina Guajardo single who wheeled around after a Chelsey
Rephan single. McKinney almost put the game away in the sixth and seventh when
again Baker got things started with a single. She then scores when Thomas hits
a single down the right field line and the ball goes under the right fielders
glove allowing Thomas to reach third. Next up was Gilbert who took a 1-1 pitch
and sent it sailing into the night sky over right field just inside the foul
pole (and yes this time I do mean foul pole).
The final run in the seventh was scored by Guajardo who led off with a
triple and plated by a Emily Marrs single up the middle. McKinney has two big

share of second in district play. The Lionettes came out on fire offensively
with the first five batters reaching base Lisa Licata single, Alyssa Fontillas

Baker RBI single. In the third McKinney picked up two more runs after Gilbert
hit a home run scoring her and Ashley Thomas who just prior took second on a
grounder into right center. The Lionettes eaked out another run in the fourth
when Haley Pruitt reaches first base with a single then goes to third on a
passed ball and tags up on a Jenny Guzman sac fly to left. McKinney put the
game away in the fifth started by Thomas who reached on a hard hit double to
the left center field gap. Thomas crossed the plate when Gilbert doubles down
the first base line. McKinney completed the game by run rule when Baker stepped
in the box and hit the first pitch off the foul pole in left center field.

Wakeland who is ranked #1 in the state and ranked #23 in the nation.
The Lionettes had their sights set on starting off the second half of
district
looking to take back a loss to Wakeland earlier in the season. Wakeland
was

run. Jenny
Gilbert then shut down the Wolverines the next three innings while
McKinney
tied the ball game in the top of the third. Gina Guajardo reached on a
single and was moved over on a Jenny Guzman sac fly. Guajardo scored
on an Alyssa Fontillas
single to right. McKinney was unable to get another run across the
plate even
though the Lionettes had runners in scoring position four different
times after the third
inning. Wakeland was able to build on their momentum after Alexis Cantu
hit a
two run shot over the right field fence in the fifth. McKinney looks to

The Lionettes started the night
out a little sluggish after giving up an unearned run and only getting two
runners on themselves in the first three innings. In the fourth McKinney had
warmed up and got the bats moving, started by Alyssa Fontillas reaching first on
a single. Fontillas was moved to third after a double by Jenny Gilbert. After a
pitching change Meredith Baker stepped up and put the first pitch over the left
center field wall. The Lionettes picked things up in the fifth where they left
off with Lauren McQuestion reaching first on a single then moved over by a
single by Ashley Thomas. Both McQuestion and Thomas scored on a Fontillas

what proved to be a marathon battle of wills. After over 3 hours, the Lionettes were able to come out with a two run victory
despite getting ten more hits than the Bearcats. Ashley Thomas led off the

Fontillas singled to right. In the second Gina Guajardo got things started by

McKinney (11-8-1)( 3-2) hosted Frisco Centennial
Tuesday on Teacher Appreciation night. Playing against a team that has been The
Lionettes nemesis the last couple of years McKinney needed to come up with a
win if they were to stay within reach of the playoff race. The game appeared to
be more of the same as both teams traded runs with each other. In the fourth it
appeared to get the best when Gina Guajardo led off by reaching first getting
hit by a pitch then moved to second after Jennifer Guzman got to first when she
laid down a beauty of a bunt . With runners at first and second Ashley Thomas
hit a triple down the left field line scoring both Guajardo and Guzman. Thomas
was plated by a Jenny Gilbert sac fly. After Centennial scored a run to tie the
game and a McKinney pitching change in the fifth inning, the Lionettes came out
in the bottom of the fifth to score another run. Guajardo hit a single to short
right center and came around when Guzman lined a shot down the left field line.
Meredith Baker who came in for Gilbert was able to get the next 6 out of 7
Centennial hitters to ground out giving McKinney a big district win to pull
even with Centennial for third.

display the same type of game they had in the previous two games, ending today’s
game with a total of 8 errors in the field. McKinney failed to make an
adjustment at the plate as well, striking out six times along the way. In three separate occasions within the first
three innings McKinney had runners in scoring position with less than two outs
but came away empty. McKinney was able to score in the fourth, getting two runs
off one hit giving life to the Lionettes but that’s as close as McKinney would
come.

Jennifer Gilbert. Although there weren’t any home runs there were
plenty of other great hits and runs to end the game in five innings. McKinney

single. Thomas then went on to steal second and reached third when the catcher
miss handled the ball. Thomas was finally brought home by a Meredith Baker

McKinney opened up district at home Tuesday against the #1
ranked 4A team in the state, Frisco Wakeland. McKinney had its chances early to
put runs on the board including the first inning but to no avail. Lauren
McQuestion, running for Jenny Gilbert, was thrown out at home after a
short pop fly single by Haley Pruitt. In the third inning McKinney had runners
at first and third but again was unable to push the runners across the plate.
That however was as close as McKinney got the rest of the night. Wakeland earned
its run in the fifth inning when Jaime Ohm reached on a short soft slap to
first base and was pushed to second on a bunt. Ohm came home from second after
Brook Cline hit a little dinker shot between first base and right field.

| Conroe | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | X | X | 1 | 3 | 3 |
In the third game of the day McKinney faced Conroe in the consolation championship game. McKinney played
aggressively from the first pitch, determined to come home on a positive note.
The Lionettes scored in five of the six innings played and was flawless
defensively behind the pitching of Meredith Baker. In the end MHS went 4-2 in the tournament, beat two state ranked teams, and ended
up 5th overall out of 28 teams.
Day 2 - Game 2 - Elgin

| Elgin | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | X | 1 | 2 | 0 |
In the second game McKinney (4-3) needed
a win against 4A Elgin (#7 team in the state) to stay alive for one more game and
a chance to play for the consolation championship of the tournament. McKinney
struggled most of the game against the Elgin pitcher and looked as if they were
coming home earlier than had been expected. MHS came close in the fourth inning
having had a runner in scoring position but was unable to get her across the
plate. But in the sixth with Thomas on second and two outs Jenny Gilbert hit a
home run over right center which was enough as Gilbert shut Elgin down in the
top of the seventh to secure the victory and one more game..
Day 2 - Game 1 - Lockhart

After
going 2-1 in pool play
Thursday McKinney ended up being placed into the Gold bracket of the
Round Rock
tournament on Saturday. In the first game MHS faced Lockhart who had
also
won their pool. Everything appeared to be going the Lionettes way as
MHS had the game within victories grasp with a 4-0 lead going
into the bottom of the fourth. That lead soon slipped away as Lockhart
was able
to take advantage of a pitching change and scored seven unanswered
runs. The
loss put McKinney into the consolation portion of the Gold bracket. On
a side
note Lockhart ended up playing against New Braunfals Canyon (#1 4A team
in the
state) in the overall championship game.
Day 1 - Game 3 - Round Rock edges McKinney

In
the third game of pool play at the Round Rock tournament McKinney (3-2) needed
to have a good game to come away with a clean sweep in pool play and get into
the gold bracket. As in the first two games MHS came out scoring first but
against a scrappy team like Round Rock and a pitching change the Lionettes
inability to adjust in the third game of the day were unable to score any more
runs. Round Rock however stayed consistent at the plate and was able to
manufacture a run in each of the three innings. McKinney awaits its fate today
as pool play ends and bracket play begins Saturday.

In the second game of pool play
at the Round Rock tournament McKinney (3-1) knew they had their hands full
against a strong 3A opponent in Lorena who’s ranked 10th in the
state. Playing off the momentum they gained beating Hutto MHS came out and
scored first as they did in the first game. McKinney played good defense behind
strong pitching of Jenny Gilbert and came away with their second straight game
of keeping the opposition from crossing the plate.

McKinney traveled to Flower
Mound High
School to take on a strong 5A Jaguar team. Things
looked promising in the first as MHS had the bases loaded with two outs but was
caught off guard in a rundown ending the inning. McKinney got back into the swing of things
after Ashley Thomas hit a one out double and then was brought home by a Jenny
Gilbert home run shot over left center field. Unfortunately any momentum the
Lionettes gained ended after the third because MHS was unable to get another runner
in scoring position. Flower Mound answered in the fourth with two runs off an
error, a double, and a wild pitch. Flower Mound was able to get their winning
run in the sixth after a two out walk, stolen base, single and a passed ball.
